UPI Payment QR Code โ Create and Display UPI QR for Your Business
A UPI QR code lets customers pay directly to your account without typing your UPI ID. Here is how to generate one for your business.
UPI payment QR codes are everywhere in India โ at every shop counter, food stall, and market vendor. Customers scan, enter amount, pay. No change needed, no card terminal required. If you run any kind of small business or accept payments personally, having your own payment QR code is genuinely practical.
How UPI QR codes work
A UPI QR code encodes your UPI ID (which looks like yourname@bankname or yourmobile@upi). When someone scans it with Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, or any UPI app, they see your name and UPI ID pre-filled. They enter the amount and confirm the payment. The money goes directly to your linked bank account.
The QR code doesn't need to contain a fixed amount. You tell the customer the total, they enter it themselves. This flexibility is why UPI QR codes work for businesses that sell different products at different prices.
Generating your payment QR code
- The easiest way: use Google Pay or PhonePe directly. They generate your personal QR code in the app โ go to your profile and tap "My QR Code." Download or screenshot it.
- Alternatively, open the QR Generator tool and enter your UPI ID in the format
upi://pay?pa=yourID@bankname&pn=YourName - Download the QR code and print it.
What to print and display
Print the QR code at a size where it's easy to scan from about 30 cm away โ roughly 10 cm x 10 cm is comfortable. Include your business name and UPI ID as text below the code. Put it in a plastic sleeve or frame and place it at your counter, till, or table. For street vendors, laminating a small card and keeping it with you works well.
Verifying payments
Always check that the payment came through before handing over goods. Open your UPI app and check the transaction history, or wait for the SMS confirmation. Don't rely on the customer's phone screen โ it's easy to fake a payment screenshot. The actual credit appears in your app and via SMS within a few seconds.
Fixed-amount QR codes
If you sell something at a fixed price โ say, a parking fee or a fixed-price meal โ you can encode the amount in the QR code itself. The format includes anam= parameter. When customers scan, the amount is pre-filled and they just confirm. This reduces errors and speeds up the payment process at high-volume locations.
